Somebody that I used to know

I can, and do, listen to this song over and over again. I didn’t really like at first but after I listened to it a few times I was like, “OMG. This is amazzinggg!”

Today I watched a bajillion live versions on youtube and I have to admit, Gotye’s awkwardness is kinda attractive.

Easter is coming!

Last year, Easter was a bust. I can’t remember what was going on exactly, but we put off seeing the Easter bunny until the last minute, then of course I got sick and we didn’t make it. Not that Lo had any understanding of the Easter bunny at all, but it made me feel really, really awful to not make it. I’ve decided that we’re not going to put off Santa and Easter bunny visits like that. I always try to wait until super close to the holiday because I thought that made it more fun for her, but it’s too much stress. This year we didn’t visit Santa until CHRISTMAS EVE! Talk about pushing it! We were trying to wait until the week of, but she was randomly running fevers so we kept deciding not to go. Luckily, though, we were the only people there to see Santa! It actually worked out pretty well.

HOWEVER, this year we made it to see the bunny last weekend. I thought we were pretty early, but in reality I had no idea that Easter was next weekend. I’ve got to get Lo’s basket started! I really love putting together Easter baskets.

I really wish it would be a Long Weekend for us, but unfortunately Good Friday isn’t a day I get off anymore. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have a good Easter. I think we’ll find an egg hunt to crash, dye some eggs, and eat some delicious foods!

Work from home?

I’ve always wanted to come across a bundle network or SEO opportunity, but I just have no clue where to start. Not to mention, I’m not the world’s greatest writer, but that’s mostly because it’s been years and years since I’ve had a refresher on grammar and I struggle most with punctuation. Commas in particular!

Any extra work I could do from home would help us, really. I would love something that’s actually steady. I get freelance graphic design opportunities quite a bit, but the projects are usually pretty random and I’m learning that even payment for those projects can be unpredictable (as I wait no so patiently for payment on my last project from January)!

Ick

Ick. It’s been a rough week here, but I’m so glad the weekend has finally arrived. I’m not even sure what we plan to do. I haven’t felt so great so I’m almost leaning towards a whole bunch of nothing. It’s really hard to do nothing, when it’s been so nice out!

Last week I was browsing online for adult lingerie costumes and found some really nice stuff, but I’d really like to lose like 30 pounds before I even think about trying to be sexy. Ha! I used to be really good at maintaining my weight but I think I’ve had a few too many glasses of wine over the past year. I’m scared to even get on the scale! I’m making a bit more of an effort though, to at least eat healthier and drink lots of water. My current favorite lunch is the BBQ Chopped Chicken Salad from Panera Bread. Yum!

What are your favorite tricks to jumpstart getting healthy?

Weekend

We had an AWESOME weekend! We spent a lot of it outdoors enjoying the amazing weather! Saturday we had a pretty long drive to a St. Paddy’s day cookout that one of Vernon’s friends was having. It was a lot of fun! There were kids the same age as Lo there, so she had a blast jumping on the trampoline with them!

The only bad thing about spending so much time outdoors early in the season is dealing with allergies. I’ve read about an austin allergist that would really be helpful when dealing with bad allergies!

On Sunday we did some shopping, had pizza for lunch and then visited with Lo’s Paw Paw before I had to head home to get the grocery shopping over with.

How was your weekend?

That’s My Answer

Income Taxes

I sent my taxes off to my accountant on Friday, he’s been doing my taxes since 1997. Who prepares your taxes?

I used to have H&R Block file my taxes every year, but because filing my taxes can be complicated, they always charged an arm and a leg so I started doing them myself! Cheaper, and way more convenient!

awesome

Lately, I’ve been on a slow cooked, pulled bbq sandwich kick. I first started making them using a recipe I saw on Pinterest and TPW, where you cover the meat with a soda like root beer or Dr. Pepper. It was an okay recipe, but then I came across a chicken bbq recipe on Pinterest that I decided to try. It’s a little bit more involved but it is SO good!

Tonight I had a ~3.25 pound pork roast that I sprinkled with garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper before putting it in the crockpot over a bed of a sliced onion and 2 cloves of garlic. Then I poured some Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce (not a ton but enough to thicken the sauce a bit) in and topped it off with a can of beer.

I had to cancel my nightly audio video conferencing because it was just so good I wanted to finish it and not have to rush. It’s so good I’m seriously trying to stop myself form having another! SO GOOD!

^ That sure as H isn’t working!@

Sunday, Sunday!

I don’t really like Sundays. :( I do for obvious reasons, no work, “sleeping in” (even though it has become absolutely impossible for me to sleep in anymore… I wake up no later than 8:30 whenever I try) and relaxing in general. I hate it though because as the day goes by the closer work becomes, and not just any ole work day, but MONDAY! I work about 12 hours on Monday, and it’s usually so depressing.

We try to make Sundays fun though, and maybe we’re old, but our idea of fun is going out for breakfast and then to the playground. Maybe I can talk Vernon into Goodwill too? It’s 99 cent colored tag clothing day! I don’t know though, we usually come home with quite a few things we don’t need, we buy gold bars, VHS tapes for Lo who already has plenty, and more toys for her. She has so many toys that she doesn’t even care about her new ones. For example, yesterday I took her to Walmart to pickup things for dinner and let her pick out a toy (there’s a long dramatic story behind why I wanted to get her a toy). She picked a new baby and an umbrella stroller. She neglected that poor baby and made Vernon feed her the bottle! HA!

Struggles

One of my good friends is really being affected by the economy, and even with a Bachelor’s degree, still can’t find a job. It makes me sad because I only have an Associate’s degree, and I’ve never considered myself to be done with school. It’s just that now, with seeing so many people who have degrees they can’t use, it seems like it would be a total waste of money to continue my education.

And that fact really just makes me sad.

I also hate that there are people who want so desperately to work but can’t get a job, while there are others out there who tend to land decent jobs, pass their pre employment background check, only to quit after their first day, for some lame reason.

I just wish everyone was successful right now. It really bothers me to think that futhering my education would only hinder me.

Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Indian Reservation

1. Do you enjoy going to a casino now and again?
I’ve actually only been to a casino when I wasn’t even old enough to gamble. I’m sure I would enjoy it now, although it’s really hard to part with money knowing it could be completely wasted!
2. What makes you happy most of the time?
Lo & Vernon, shopping, going out to eat, having a good time with people I love :)
3. Are you jealous of someone right now?
No one in particular, but sometimes I get jealous of people who get a break every once in a while. Especially right now, while Lo is throwing a fit because she doesn’t want to go to bed. Go to sleep, baby!
4. You’re stranded on a desert island with one fictional character. Who is it? Why?
Homer Simpson :) Cause he’s hilarious.
5. Have you ever been in the emergency room? If yes, for what (most recently)?
Yes, but not for myself. Lo had what looked like a spider bite on her finger when she was about 9 months old. Vernon said he’d seen a brown recluse in her room, so we took her in just to be safe. It ended up just being a weird sore.
6. Where is the last place you drove to just for fun?
Gosh, I can’t even remember. I rarely drive for fun anymore.
7. If you were to make your living as a photographer, what would love to shoot?
Wildlife!
8. Tell us about a band you like that we might not have heard.
Man Man
9. Where was the last place you went shopping? Why?
I stopped by Walmart on my way home last night. I had no real reason for being there but I did want to treat myself to something. I ended up getting a new wallet, a few sets of hoop earrings, and a gorgeous red nail varnish :)
